The NATURSEA-PV consortium gathered for a two-day General Assembly Meeting at Technische Universität Darmstadt on 15th and 16th of May to assess the progress of the project and shape its next steps.
The meeting opened with updates on the development of our floating concrete platform, designed to support photovoltaic panels in marine environments. After successful tests at MARIN, the focus now shifts to making the structure more durable, cost-effective, and easy to install, essential requirements for market viability.
Testing and optimization were central topics of discussion. From durability and flexibility of concrete to crack management, partners presented results from rigorous lab work. These tests are fundamental to creating accurate models and ensuring performance at sea.
The second day addressed the social and regulatory aspects of offshore floating PV in Europe. University College Cork guided the consortium through a landscape where regulations are still developing, making NATURSEA-PV a true pioneer. Environmental impacts and marine ecosystem safety were also key themes, because sustainability includes protecting marine life.
Finally, the Communication, Dissemination and Exploitation activities were reviewed, highlighting how the project is being shared with the world. The meeting concluded with reflections from Project Coordinator Edurne Erkizia and, of course, a great team photo.
With collaboration, innovation and dedication, NATURSEA-PV is moving closer to delivering a sustainable offshore solar solution that works, for the market, for the environment, and for the future.
